Standard

It’s official…Summer is here!! Yaaaa!! To celebrate the beginning of the most fabulous season,  I wanna go over some of the wonderful beauty products I received in my June sample subscription bags…

Birchbox

Image

It is my absolute favorite BBox to date! Just look at all those goodies……

1. Stila One Step Bronze-I will be using this bronzer daily! In an effort to keep wrinkles and sun damage at bay, I wear SPF daily and especially when I am sunning other parts of my body. To maintain an overall GLOW, I slather on the Stila One Bronzer. One pump covers my face quite nice. The helix of colors is perfect because it highlights (**Kitten**), balances, and gives me a tanned look!

2. Staniac-Love it! A quick swipe of the applicator on my cheeks and lips give me a fresh, dewy, “I naturally look this good” look!

3. Masqueology-This is my first experience with a wet mask and I loved it. I wore it for a little over 20 minutes last night. It was easy to apply and my skin still feels amazingly moisturized. It’s definitely something I’d like to put into my beauty routine!! I have some stored BB points that I can use to get a few more masks!!

ooooooohhhhhhh sssscccarrrryyyyy……

4. Self-Tanning Wipes– I’ve yet to try these and have a feeling they will come in handy this fall/winter to cover tan lines and brighten dull skin!

5. Tili bag– Already used! Yeah, it’s cute and it holds my stuff…but a regular baggy does the same thing! Not sure I “need” to order more!

6. John Varvatos Cologne– An extra in the box. I will pass it along to my brother and get his opinion on it!

1.  Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist:  This product is really AWESOME for summer. Just spray it in damp hair, scrunch a bit, and you’ve got “beach hair”!  This product contains bamboo and blue yucca root! It also smells very nice!

2. Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream: I LOVE CAUDALIE. It is an under eye cream an as well as an eye brightener, making eyes look instantly younger with pearlized pigments in it.

3. Oscar de la Renta Live in Love Eau De Parfum: The scent is described as a “green floral bouquet”. Not really for me! But the bottle is cute , right?

4.  Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper:  The shade  is Tokyo, which is a light, shimmery pink. It contains mint and ginger to plump the lips which is nice because it is sort of a minty scent.

5.  Murad Acne Clarifying Cleanser:  It contains salicylic acid to beat breakouts.  Did a little research an found out this stuff is “time-released”, so even after you’ve washed your face, it’s working its magic. Glad to have the nice sample size to try!

Spicy Black Bean Burgers

Standard

Spicy Black Bean Burgers (adapted from Skinnytaste.com)
Image

Ingredients:
16 oz can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 red bell pepper, cut into 2 inch pieces
1/2 cup chopped scallions
3 tbsp chopped cilantro
3 cloves garlic, peeled
1 jumbo egg
1 tbsp cumin
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 cup quick oats
1 small hass avocado, sliced thin

Image
Dry the beans well after washing, extra moisture keep the burgers from sticking. In a bowl, mash beans with a fork until thick and pasty.

In a food processor, finely chop bell pepper, cilantro, onion, and garlic, then add oats, then egg and spices. Then stir into mashed beans.

ImageImage
Divide mixture into 4-5** patties (using slightly oiled hands helps) and place them onto a flat surface covered with wax paper.

(If the mixture is too wet, chill the mixture 30 minutes in the refrigerator or add another more oats).  **I doubled this recipe and made 9 burgers**

ImageImage

Freeze at least 2 hours before cooking or keep frozen until ready to cook.

Image

Heat a lightly sprayed skillet to medium heat and cook frozen burgers about 6-7 minutes on each side.
Image
If grilling, preheat grill over medium heat, and lightly oil a sheet of foil; grill 7-8 minutes on each side or you can bake in the oven at 375° on a lightly oiled baking sheet.

Pool Noodle Wreath…

Standard

I know you have seen these wreaths all over the blogs and Pinterest. I think they are ingenious, cute, and so versatile!!

I picked up Pool Noodle at Wal-Mart for $1.88 and used items I found in my craft bins to decorate it! I purposely used straight pins to hold the material b/c I knew I wouldn’t want to keep the pink material on it for long. With the 4th of July quickly approaching, I think I will re-do it in Red/White/Blue over the weekend!!

 Image

1. Cut the ends of your pool noodle at an angle. This will make binding them together much easier.  Just be sure you cut the end in opposite angles. Use duck tape to make the wreath form.

 Image

2. Cut your material in strips approx 2-3″ wide (width will vary depending on the stretch in the material).

 Image

3.  Start at the top of your pool noodle, affix your material with pins, and start to wrap the material around the noodle. I gently tugged on my material to create even spacing, due to the fact my material was very stretchy. Start and end each strip on the back side of the noodle so the pins are hidden when you display it. **This can step can be done with pins, hot glue, etc**

 Image

5. Decorate. I also used pins to attach the ribbon and flower.

5. Use ribbon or a door hanger to display your finished product!!

Sally Hansen Crackle “Antique Gold”

Standard

I picked up a bottle of the Sally Hansen “Antique Gold” Crackle overcoat yesterday on sale..clearance $1.75!!

I paired it with “Watch Your Language” by Spoiled, Sally Hansen Double Duty Top & Base Coat, and Seche Vite…

 ImageImage

I like the results. The crackle polish is VERY THICK.  I think the best way to apply it is in a 2 stroke method. I put just enough polish on the brush to cover half a nail, applied in 1 stroke, and then did the same thing for the other half of each nail. The finished look was even and I was able to cover all of my nail! I let it dry for approx 2 minutes and applied my Seche Vite!
